JAMBO!

We had absolutely fantastic safaris in September 2005, 2007 and 2010 and are pleased to continue the program with generally the same itinerary in 2012.  Not only did we have a lot of incredible luck finding animals, the weather was pretty much perfect in our 3 most recent trips.  Our groups had a combination of adventure and humour, but best of all, they were all so delightful and a true pleasure to travel with.  In 2010 we did extremely well with the cats – and saw 7 different leopards, let alone the numerous cheetah and lion.

JOIN IN FOR OUR 2012 PHOTO SAFARI

I am thrilled to personally host again (my 8th trip) in 2012 and our Kenya head guide and tour leader in 2005, 2007 and 2010 has agreed also to come back to join our group.  James is a wealth of knowledge and has been accompanying groups for many years.  He will look after you throughout your safari ensuring that all details are in order.  There will be at least two exclusive lectures along with his shared time in safari vehicles.  Besides only being stumped once with the thousands of questions that he was asked, he has a wonderful personality and is about as charming a person you can find.  James brings so much extra value to our trips and I can’t think of anyone who has come with me that will dispute this!  We are hoping to bring James to Canada in the Spring of 2011 to do a lecture series throughout Canada – please let me know and I will ensure you are invited.  We are waiting for James to get a special visa to enter Canada – which is not assured, but we are trying!

Unfortunately the prices in East Africa are going up fast. The supply of accommodations has actually gone down and demand is incredible, even in today’s economy.  Our itinerary is deluxe and in comparison to what the other premier safari companies do – our price, while fairly expensive, is still significantly less than comparable operators.  This is a tremendous trip and you’ve just got to join us!

This is a fabulous time of year to visit East Africa.  The weather is generally great, with plenty of wildlife to see.   In our recent trips, we experienced very few bugs and the plains were green and filled with so many animals in the true wild.

Visiting Kenya and Tanzania is not nearly as scary as it sounds.  The places we go cater to many thousands of  “western” tourists a year.  It will be bumpy and dusty at times, but overall it is pretty easy, and with James helping you, it is fairly effortless.  If you have a really bad back or allergic to dust, then I would recommend you not do the trip – but if you are in reasonable health, it is unlikely you will have any problems.

This tour is all about the animals, and seeing them, without disturbing them in their natural environment.  This is a photo safari only!  This is a custom safari that I put together with our good friends at Express Travel Group in Nairobi and is very deluxe.  This offers exceptional value for the quality of the itinerary, the lodges and the 5 included flights.
Come and join the group. You will be KARIBU!  It will be a highlight of your life.

MOST IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK!

While this is a very comfortable way to see East Africa it is a BUSY vacation.  Most mornings have wake up calls around 5:30 AM (as game viewing and weather is usually the best early).  We are visiting 9 hotels or lodges in 17 nights and are moving and packing a lot.   It will get bumpy and it will get dusty on occasion.  Our internal flights are on small planes (12 to around 30 seats) and it can get quite warm at times.  This time of year it’s generally very liveable but there can be days when temps are around 90 degrees F.  It also can be quite cool.  At the higher elevations (like Mt Kenya Safari Club) it can be close to freezing at night.  The itinerary and flights are always subject to change.  We have had exceptional luck with recent programs with only minor changes but….this is Africa.  My best advice is to bring along a sense of humour, be patient and relax!  Sometimes things happen and can get a lot more complicated than you would ever believe they could – but that’s all part of the adventure!  We’re bound to see some flat tires, maybe a broken down vehicle or two – but you will have happy memories and meet some wonderful people along the way.

While we have an itinerary and expect to stay in the lodges listed, we may deviate!
We may require a minimum number of guests.  While we are quite confident that we will have easily enough to proceed, it must be clear that we do have the right to cancel the tour if we do not book as many people as required.  Our number is around 18 (sometimes less).

Meals are included throughout with the exception of lunch in Nairobi on September 15 and October 2, dinner on September 16, as well as meals before the flight home on October 2.  Many meals are buffet style – lots of chicken, meats, fish and fabulous fresh vegetables.  I never lose weight on this trip – the desserts are wonderful too!

This package does not include air into Nairobi.  We work with our wholesalers and are happy to help you with your flights or you can arrange them yourself with points or online.  You need to be in Nairobi the evening of Sept 15.  If you do not arrive by at the latest the evening of Sept 16, it will be very expensive for you to catch up to our group.  You can book your flight out of Nairobi on the evening of October 2.  Most departing flights are between around 5:00 PM and midnight.  If you wish to stay longer or arrive earlier, please ask me for my recommendations.

TIMING NOT WORK FOR YOU?

While I will not personally host, James and I are organizing some alternate dates and itineraries.  I also can custom design a safari for you – please ask for details!
