Spotlight on Fuerte Amador
This week, we thought it would be fun to take a look at Fuerte Amador, a popular port just outside of Panama City. Fuerte Amador is a man-made peninsula, connecting four small islands to the mainland on the Pacific.
While in port, you will find it to be a bustling hub. The area boasts amazing views, exciting adventure possibilities and lots of shopping and restaurants to keep you entertained.
Notable places to visit include the Miraflores Locks, where you can watch the boats float through the Panama Canal and the Smithsonian Institute of Tropical Research called ‘Bocas del Toro Research Station’ that allows researchers to study the vast differences between marine life in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
GO BANANAS... on a Monkey Island tour! Tour the rainforest and spot capuchin and howler monkeys, to name a few. You will also get the chance to spot iguanas and crocodiles in their natural habitats.
As you stay in Fuerte Amador, you can decide for yourself which is better: the magnificent sun gleaming over the water in the early morning or the colourful night sky as the sun sets over the skyscrapers of neighbouring Panama City.
Tempted? Take a look at our feature sailing this week for an enticing value-packed cruise through an engineering marvel; it is one of the seven wonders of the modern world after all!
