Holiday Cruising
Summer has finally arrived and I know everyone is out enjoying their gardens and camping…but now we’ve got to talk about a very important issue: Your Holiday travel plans. I’m sure right now the holidays seem so far in the future but it is scary how fast 5 months can pass and how quickly holiday cruises and resorts can sell out. When that December weather rolls around and all your friends are off in the Caribbean, you’ll wish you had planned for the winter like the ant in Aesop’s fable instead of freezing like the grasshopper
When it comes to Holiday vacations, many people shy away because it isn’t the “[insert your family name here] family tradition” so let us tempt you with some reasons to enjoy a holiday away.
- Palm trees and sun…escape the dreary winter cold!
- Ships and resorts are festively decorated and host a number of holiday events including New Year’s galas.
- Your biggest decision will be which outing for the day to participate in, or spa treatment to enjoy…J
- A wide array of activities great for multi-generational families and friends. Both ships and resorts have great children’s programs over the Christmas season.
- Everyone chooses what they eat so you don’t have to fuss over the dinner (ie Aunt Martha won’t eat ham, someone has a pet turkey, the kids only eat things dinosaur shaped, etc) and yet a full traditional holiday meal is available for those who want it. (ok, I’m sold now…)
- You don’t have to cook and serve, which means you’ll actually enjoy a hot meal this holiday season!
- No dirty stove, no broken irreplaceable china, and even better…NO DISHES!
- Because of numbers 5, 6, and 7…you have time to enjoy the holiday and spend quality time with your family.
- The holiday cruise can be considered one another’s presents…which means more room in your suitcase for trinkets of far away lands!
- Maybe ease should be the new family tradition?
Okay, the 9th reason may have been a last attempt to sway you but I’m sure I won you over at NO DISHES!
Not sure who to cruise with or where to stay? Read up on the distinguishing features of each cruise line on the CruisePlus website www.cruiseplus.ca and figure out which cruise line is your best fit, or talk to your CruisePlus consultant about the right destination resort.
In order to best determine what will work for you and your friends and family on your holiday cruise ask yourself “who is traveling?” because you will want to ensure there are sufficient activities for the kids and adults, or perhaps special accommodations if you have a loved one with limited mobility. Also ask yourself if you are looking for a casual experience or a reason to get dressed up in cocktail dresses and tuxes?
I leave you with the holiday seed planted in your mind. When it comes to the holidays, some traditions will always remain, whether you are at home or at sea; it’s a promise that you will still find dad napping after ingesting copious amounts of turkey; your sisters will still be laughing about the time they convinced you to do something you wish they would forget; and the kids will still hear their favourite holiday stories.
I hope you’re now thinking of your holidays…while enjoying that beautiful sunshine out there!
Have a great week!
